Investigation of the Bennington Battle Monument

Atkinson-Noland & Associates, in collaboration with Stevens & Associates, Silman, and Vertical Access will carry out a Surface Penetrating Radar (SPR) investigation at the Bennington Battle Monument in Bennington, Vermont, to evaluate typical construction of the stone masonry walls. The Bennington Battle Monument, completed in 1889, was constructed to commemorate the 1777 Battle of Bennington, a pivotal victory for the colonial forces on the New England front during the American Revolution. As part of the current preservation effort, ANA’s investigation aims to evaluate typical size and frequency of internal voids and to determine the interconnectivity of the wall based on stone thicknesses and coursing.
