Atkinson-Noland & Associates recently published an article on the evaluation of existing and historic stone arch bridges. In the United States, many examples of stone arch bridges can be found, still accomplishing their original function of bridging streams and rivers. Many people recognize the need to preserve these historic structures, as they are part of the history and heritage of many local communities. The article, featured in the May issue of the Structure Magazine, discusses many topics related to stone arch bridges, including the evaluation and assessment process, the analysis and load rating procedures, and repair and strengthening methods.
